At the 94th National FFA Convention & Expo, West Rowan FFA Alumni and Supporters of Mount Ulla, N.C., won National Outstanding FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter for a year of original programming and exceptional results. Here are some highlights:
Alumni Council Leadership Training
At the annual August meeting, FFA advisors and past alumni and supporter presidents led nine members through a unifying four-hour training, which covered chapter history, goal setting, volunteer agreements and committee appointments.
Capital Campaign for Multipurpose Memorial Trailer
The chapter raised $15,000 for an 18-foot trailer to be used for concessions and mobile classrooms. Each $1,000 donation memorialized or honored an integral member of the local ag community, with their names showcased on the back door.
Plant Hope
When COVID-19 struck, alumni and students distributed “starter gardens” to 80 families concerned with food security. The kits included 10 types of vegetable plants from the school’s greenhouse, care instructions, recipes and information about FFA.
Oyster Roast and Silent Auction
The annual signature event raises money for students to attend national convention. Raising $23,000, the chapter also funded a college scholarship, supported a teacher’s land lab project, sponsored one state leadership conference and gained two life alumni members.
Growing Falcon Leaders
This virtual leadership program for student officers includes a two-day training, monthly events, a book study and tickets for all to attend the state leadership conference. The goal: Equip officers with the tools to inspire and grow their chapter.
