8 Things to Know About FFA New Horizons

It’s more than just a magazine. In addition to serving as a connection point for everyone who supports the blue and gold, FFA New Horizons reflects the history, growth and changes made in both the agriculture industry and the National FFA Organization.

Today, copies of this publication can be found in numerous classrooms, office buildings and homes throughout the country. As you await the next issue, check out these eight fun and surprising facts about FFA New Horizons.

1. It has a storied history.

A motion made during a National FFA Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee meeting laid the groundwork for more than seventy years of award-winning and captivating content featuring FFA members, advisors, corporate partners, alumni and supporters.

2. It’s in tune with the times.

Just as American and world history have evolved, so has the National FFA Organization. From showcasing FFA traditions to spotlighting topics such as emerging STEAM careers, technological advancements in agriculture and the U.S. farm bill, National FFA strives to provide timely, engaging and newsworthy content.

3. It’s had several names, but the same purpose.

The first national FFA publication, Future Farmers of America, debuted in the late 1940s, followed by the first issue of The National Future Farmer magazine in 1952. The publication was renamed FFA New Horizons magazine in 1989, marking a new era in agriculture and FFA.

4. It’s twice the fun.

FFA members, agricultural educators and advisors as well as lifetime Alumni and Supporters receive a spring/summer and a fall/winter issue of FFA New Horizons magazine annually. Ensure you receive the next issue by logging into your National FFA profile and confirming your mailing address is accurate and up-to-date.

5. It arrives in your mailbox and online.

In addition to physical copies of the magazine, digital versions are available as well. Use your smartphone, laptop or tablet to flip through recent issues on FFA.org or browse a full online archive hosted by Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis.

6. Teamwork makes the dream work.

The stories you connect and engage with online are produced, in part, thanks to an ongoing partnership between the National FFA Organization and Successful Farming, a branch of Dotdash Meredith Inc. located in Des Moines, Iowa.

Each issue of FFA New Horizons magazine features captivating stories about FFA members, chapters, corporate partners, alumni, supporters and more.
