During its May 2023 meeting in Indianapolis, the National FFA Board of Directors approved a recommendation from the National FFA Delegates regarding FFA Ceremonies. Effective immediately, the board approved the following option for all official ceremonies.
Addition of Terminology for FFA Ceremonies
(Approved by the National FFA Board of Directors – May 9, 2023)
In addition to upholding the tradition of using Mister/Madam in all official FFA ceremonies, the option of using “Officer Position (Last Name)” may be considered for use in Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Discovery FFA Degree Ceremony, Greenhand FFA Degree Ceremony, Chapter FFA Degree Ceremony, State FFA Ceremony, and American FFA Degree Ceremony.
This addition was first recommended by the Membership Experience Improvement Committee at the 95th National FFA Convention & Expo and approved by the 475 member delegates in October 2022. Delegates to the National FFA Convention & Expo represent the interests of FFA members within their state FFA associations while working to forward the business of the organization. Once the delegates adopt a recommendation, it returns to the organization for action. Adopted strategic recommendations are referred to the board of directors for consideration.
This option is available immediately at the national, state and local levels.
National FFA has started reflecting these changes in materials, including:
- FFA.org (immediately)
- Official FFA Manual in English and Spanish (online and print versions in August)
- Relevant national Career and Leadership Development Events or other national-level programs.
- Official FFA Student Handbook in English and Spanish (next edition)
