Sugar-Salem FFA members Dillan Lerwill, Sarah Jones, Brandon Little and Kody Lusk had the opportunity to attend an Idaho FFA state summer camp. Events like District Officer Training (DOT) and Summer Outdoor Leadership Retreat (SOLR) are great opportunities for FFA members to get to know others from around the state while growing as leaders together.
“I loved my experience at SOLR,” says Little. “It was so cool to grow together with members of both my district and chapter officer teams.”
The members went through different rotations each day. Some days, they learned how to grow as an officer team; others, they learned what kind of leader they were individually. Throughout the week, they noticed each others’ strengths and realized their own weaknesses.

“It was so cool to learn more about myself and my teammates,” says Lerwill. “I learned I am a blue personality and how I can use that for my officer team.”
Lusk enjoyed getting to know some of the other districts and being friends with everyone. He made sure everyone always had a friend to eat and play games with. He also learned he is a yellow personality, meaning he is a fun person who loves to laugh.
“I find it’s just as important to get to know everyone as the district president, even if they aren’t from here,” Lusk says. “I love getting to know everyone and still talk to them today.”
These Sugar-Salem FFA members had a blast at camp, and learned so much about themselves and others.
