The Evergreen FFA Chapter in Ohio buzzed with excitement as members prepared for their first Gold Game, an event dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research and financial support to families with daunting medical bills. This year, their efforts would include a district-wide coin drive and a fundraising initiative at the upcoming high school volleyball and football games.
As the sun rose on a crisp September morning, the committee members gathered for their meeting. Posters filled the walls, each brightly colored and with gold accents — their theme for the event. “Every cent counts,” said Taylor, the chapter president, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “We want to raise as much as we can for the CURE Foundation.”
The plan was simple yet effective. Over the next week, students from the elementary, middle and high schools would join in a friendly competition to collect spare change. Buckets decorated with cheerful labels would be placed outside of each main office, encouraging students to contribute.
FFA Gathers Support at Volleyball Game
As the volleyball game approached on Sept. 26, FFA members mobilized to set up a table outside of the gym. They had spent hours crafting flyers and spreading the word on social media. In addition to the coin drive, the chapter would sell packages of 10 tulip bulbs for $10, complete with growing instructions.
Game day arrived, and the gym was alive with energy. Parents, students and community members filled the stands, cheering for their teams. The FFA table was full of bright yellow and gold decorations, the colors of childhood cancer awareness.
Throughout the game, FFA volunteers eagerly engaged with attendees, sharing stories of the families who had benefited from research funded by the CURE Foundation. “We’re here to make a difference, one coin at a time,” one member explained to a curious onlooker. The donation jar quickly filled as people dropped in their spare change, inspired by the cause.
FFA Raises Funds at Football Game
The next evening, the football game drew an even larger crowd. FFA members were ready, holding up signs promoting their tulip bulb packages and inviting donations. The school’s student section had a “Minion out” to present the color yellow and help promote the cause. The excitement was unmatchable, and soon, fans were stopping by to contribute.
“Thank you for supporting pediatric cancer research,” they said, smiling as people purchased bulbs and donated money.
In the days that followed, Evergreen FFA celebrated its success, proud of what they had accomplished together. Ultimately, the members knew that their efforts, along with those of their community, would help plant seeds of hope for countless families facing unimaginable challenges.
