The Marianna FFA Chapter in Florida is currently experiencing a wave of exciting developments.
Throughout the past four years, it has advocated for a new agriculture barn designed to accommodate members’ livestock. The barn the chapter previously owned had major damage from Hurricane Michael. As the chapter continues to grow, the number of livestock housed in the previous barn has exceeded the space needed for them.
Through making trips to Tallahassee to speak with legislators and striving to make connections, the chapter reached a significant milestone when it began the process of transforming the new barn into a suitable environment for its show pigs. Students, families and community members recently had the opportunity to set up pens and an arena to help care for and prepare the chapter’s swine for show season. This event quickly became bonding experience for everyone who was involved.
The Florida Department of Agriculture Community Education Grant Program provided this shared land lab for both the high school and middle school FFA chapters. It serves as a collaborative space for both chapters, allowing opportunities for members to engage in hands-on projects during class time. The chapter is appreciative of this opportunity to enhance the learning and growth of its members.
This barn represents the culmination of years of effort and dedication, and Marianna FFA is committed to making the most of it. Members recently showed the first set of swine coming from the new barn, and the chapter was well represented and can see a definite change since moving to a better agricultural space for its livestock and showmen.
This marks a thrilling new chapter for Marianna FFA.
