After several months of planning and preparation, the Liberty-Benton FFA Chapter in Ohio held a community service project that will leave an incredible impact on its community.
The chapter worked with a meal packaging organization called Meals of Hope to prepare 10,000 meals of apple cinnamon oatmeal for people in and around Findlay, Ohio. With the financial support of several local businesses, including Marathon, members raised the $3,400 necessary to achieve their goal.
After receiving the funding, Meals of Hope shipped the ingredients and supplies needed for the event to the chapter. With help from their high school, members assembled, bagged and boxed the meals on Friday, May 17, 2024.
The following week, the chapter contacted food banks and churches to find homes for the boxes of oatmeal. After developing a list, the chapter officer team delivered the meals during their officer retreat.
Food for Thought
Liberty-Benton FFA is relatively small, with roughly 30 members annually. Despite its size, the chapter has made an impact that has changed the lives of hundreds.
It doesn’t take a large group to make a difference, and a high budget isn’t necessary. It also doesn’t matter if a chapter was unsuccessful in the past. The past is something to be learned from, not defined by.
As a national organization, FFA members need to look forward to new horizons. There is no time better than the present to make an impact. With teamwork and determination, any chapter can make a difference.
Make a Difference
Whether you are an officer or a Greenhand, everyone in FFA has the potential to spark new ideas into their chapter and state. What starts as a mere thought can grow and spread. All it takes is a member like you to start something new.
