In the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in October 2024, thousands of people were left homeless and with few belongings. The value of damages from the tropical storms is estimated to be more than $50 billion.

However, eight Nebraska FFA chapters worked to make a difference. The McCool Junction FFA and York FFA Chapters arranged for a semitruck to be used to haul donations to drop-off sites at churches in Tennessee. Other area chapters, including Meridian FFA, Heartland FFA, Centennial FFA, Fillmore Central FFA, Cross County FFA and Fullerton FFA, also contributed supplies.

Items that were donated by the Fullerton FFA Chapter included bottled water, nonperishable foods, can openers, diapers, sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, first aid supplies, flashlights, cleaning supplies, towels, toiletries, pet food, shoes and socks, undergarments, coats and other clothing. Other chapters also donated items such as livestock feed and hay, gas cans, matches, charcoal and charcoal grills.

Throughout four days, the Fullerton FFA Chapter collected enough donations to fill two large sport utility vehicles with supplies to be taken to York, Neb., where the semitruck was loaded. Combined with the other chapters’ donations, the truck was full when it departed for Tennessee.
