An annual tradition for the Montague FFA Chapter, which is located on the west side of Michigan, began after advisor Kate Feuerstein did a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) tour with a student who worked at a Christmas tree farm.
The owner of the farm mentioned that they collect trees and feed them to their goats. Goats enjoy eating leftover branches from trees and Christmas wreaths.
Feuerstein and her officer team decided to collect Christmas trees in their area and give them to local farms to feed their goats. As part of this process, the chapter encourages community members to donate trees at their high school. They also ask for all tinsel and ornaments to be removed from the tree prior to donating.
This has since become a community-wide event the chapter does each holiday season. “We try to be active in our community in a variety of ways, and [this] is a way to reach people who we might not otherwise interact with,” says Montague FFA member Grace Torsch.
Happy holidays to Montague FFA in Michigan!
