As part of the National FFA Organization’s Day of Service, Friendswood FFA members and officers volunteered at M.I. Lewis Social Services Center in Dickinson, Texas. While there, members completed a variety of tasks with the goal of serving others and lightening the hefty food load of the food bank.
One task was to decorate and fill bags of food for local Dickinson ISD students who may not have eaten well over the upcoming spring break. Members also helped restore and tidy the facility, including touching up paint and organizing the freezers used to store some of the food bank donations.

Friendswood FFA consistently helps the community. This is their third year of volunteering with the center. Making it even more special, this idea was started by Friendswood FFA Alum Cooper Crow, who also served as an officer for both Friendswood FFA and Gulf Coast District.
Friendswood FFA officer Peyton McAshlan shared how this community outreach has impacted her life. “With food insecurity being such an abundant national issue, it’s important that we as leaders do whatever we can to fight it. Getting to also collaborate and work on countless service projects leaves you full knowing you got to help make a difference,” she said.
Beyond this Day of Service event, FFA Week furthers the organization’s mission in countless ways. Friendswood FFA participates in countless activities, including Chapter Game Night, Faculty Showdown, and hosting a barn dance. These are all designed to help members strengthen their community.
