Nevaeh Locklear from the Lumberton FFA Chapter in North Carolina has been making a change for two, going on three, years with her Supervised Agriculture Experience.
Locklear attends Lumberton High School, where she sparked her interest in animal science from the courses she took her freshman year. Locklear wanted to become more active with the animals on campus, so she took on the opportunity of taking care of goats housed in her school’s animal science facility. Locklear is committed and dedicated to working, feeding and watering, and maintaining the facility daily and over the weekends.
Another component of Locklear’s SAE is working with and walking the Lumberton FFA Chapter’s goats, Loretta and Dolly. She has shown them at the local county fairs in market and showmanship classes for two show seasons.
Locklear says her favorite part of her SAE is getting to work with the goats and her amazing teammates, who have quickly become family. With her projects, Locklear has shared her passion with other students at her school by presenting an animal science lesson plan to the exceptional children classes and informing and recruiting her fellow members to show goats for the new show season.
Throughout her years of working with and maintaining her chapter’s goats, she’s accumulated more than 120 hours through her SAE, and plans to continue her passion for the rest of high school.
