The Dora FFA Chapter of the New Mexico FFA Association is boosting community involvement and support with its Bingo Bash.
The event took place on Oct. 11 at the Dora Schools Gym as part of a school event called “Dora Fun Night.” The members’ involvement in organizing the bingo game is a prime example of how FFA is developing the next generation of leaders who will change the world.
Ashton Davis, a senior at Dora High School, has been an FFA member for six years and helped organize the annual event for five years. Davis says this event gives to the community, and the chapter receives donations in return. “This event usually brings in support to our chapter, which allows for more funding to compete,” he said.
Davis says he enjoys the chapter’s involvement with the community, especially considering Dora is a small town.“The best part of the whole event is bringing our small community together to have a fun night together,” he said.
Rylan Harris, a sophomore at Dora High School, says he appreciates the service this event provides to the community. “The best part about this is we get to serve the people,” Harris said. He says playing bingo at Fun Night gives back to the chapter as well. “I think that this event does boost our chapter [because] we get to keep all of the profits,” Harris said. “More importantly, we get to grow closer as a chapter and meet new community members.”
Timothy Neal, a sophomore at Dora High School, says he enjoys this event because it brings the chapter closer together. “[One thing] that I’ve enjoyed over the past few years is the fellowship, the way that FFA brings everyone closer as teammates,” Neal said.
He also provides insight for any chapter looking to hold a similar event. “[I would recommend that you] make sure to post it on social media or on the school calendar so that people will show up,” Neal said.
