With the holidays quickly approaching, the spirit of giving back is alive and well in Florida’s District VII FFA. This year, President Marissa Romeu and Secretary Sophia Young partnered to launch the District VII FFA Closet Drive, an initiative aimed at helping members participate in FFA events without the financial burden of buying Official Dress.

The goal of this project is simple: To create FFA Official Dress closets at local schools, providing members who may not be able to afford official attire with the opportunity to borrow it for competitions, conferences and shows. As of now, all Florida students enrolled in agriculture classes are members of FFA at no cost; however, the expense of Official Dress can still be a barrier for some.

Romeu and Young brainstormed the idea after realizing that many students, despite their passion for FFA, were struggling to afford the necessary attire to participate in FFA events. The closet drive offers three ways for community members to get involved, ensuring as many people as possible can contribute to this cause. The ways to donate include a GoFundMe, an Amazon wish list and physical donations. Please use these links if you are considering participating in the service event.

The impact of this project goes beyond just providing clothes; it’s about building community connections and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to be involved in FFA, regardless of their financial situation. According to Young, “Living to Serve” is more than just a motto — it’s a reminder of the important role FFA plays in advocating for agriculture and supporting future leaders.

Once the two-week donation period is over, the district will have two Official Dress closets — one for a middle school and one for a high school — that are ready to be donated. The hope is that this initiative will continue for years to come, inspiring other districts to launch similar projects.

Through community engagement and service, Florida’s District VII members are truly “Living to Serve.”
