This has been discussed at great length and the idea is not without merit. Two factors are prohibiting National FFA from doing this at this time. (1) The anticipated fees collected nationwide will be around $4.8 million. This will reduce what National FFA currently collects under the existing membership structure. The National FFA Board of Directors and National FFA Treasurer have run numerous scenarios attempting to find a way to operate the national organization with $4.8 million less in funding to no avail. Should national programming or priorities change and/or donated funds make this loss sustainable, then it would be entirely possible that the national fee could be eliminated. (2) Even if National FFA could eliminate the national fee, each state would almost certainly have their own fee to assess, therefore not really eliminating the fee at the local level.
