Many exciting things await throughout the next four months. Leadership trainings, conferences, competitions and more are filling up members’ calendars. See what activities you can engage in throughout the next semester.

1. Focus on your supervised agricultural experience (SAE).

Starting a new school year, you’ll want to prioritize the things that are important to you. For some, that might mean working hard on an SAE or even beginning a new one. Need SAE inspiration? Visit FFA.org/FFA-Video-Center/SAE-Video-Library.

2. Prep for competition and award season.

Spend your free time polishing and preparing for the competitions ahead. Most award and degree applications are due in the spring or early summer, so prepare now.

3. Engage in community service.

Do you need hours for your degree or scholarship applications? What are the greatest needs in your community? Answer these questions and make plans to give back to your community.

4. Plan chapter programming.

Your chapter officer team was probably just elected. Take time to bond and create new activities for the chapter during a chapter officer retreat.

5. Participate in county and state fairs.

County and state fairs are a rite of passage for members. Volunteer on the fair board, plan how to advocate for the industry with fair attendees and prepare to show animals at fair time.

6. Visit college campuses and complete job shadows.

It’s never too early to begin making plans for after high school. Learn how to prepare for college applications, take career preparation courses and find workplaces that will allow you to experience a day in the life of an employee.

7. Make a plan for the year ahead.

Visit with your mentors during the semester to develop a personal SAE plan, plot an FFA leadership plan, and look at your school course planning. Make decisions with your future goals in mind.
