When thinking about production, it is important to keep the end product and those producing the end product in mind. Syngenta has six key steps in their “Good Growth Initiative Plan” to address the challenges of soil loss, disappearing biodiversity and producers living in poverty.

  • Making crops more efficient is crucial to be able to utilize the shrinking amount of farmland, while increasing yields to still feed the population.
  • Currently, millions of hectares of soil are too depleted to produce food. Syngenta is working to change farming practices to reduce soil loss.
  • Sustainable agriculture relies on biodiversity for plant breeding, pollination and food diversity. But with biodiversity declining fast as species’ habitats are lost, and climate change increases the risks, Syngenta is working to promote and enable action to reverse this trend.
  • Many of the world’s farmers are “smallholders” and farm on less than two hectares of land. Syngenta is working to help these individuals prosper through tools and training to help increase productivity.
  • Producer safety is also crucial to food production. Syngenta is working to increase safety by finding new ways to train workers on safety.
  • Syngenta has a commitment to strive for fair labor conditions throughout the entire supply chain by ensuring suppliers are meeting the highest ethical standards, especially in developing countries.
