Each year, the National FFA Organization selects six student members to represent the organization as a national FFA officer.

The primary responsibility of a national officer is to serve the organization in local, state, national and international activities in a way that will inform, motivate and inspire FFA members, advisors, state staff, teachers and others to achieve the mission, strategies and core goals of the organization.

National officers dedicate one year of service with the organization. The time is spent representing student membership during meetings with the National FFA Board of Directors, facilitating workshops that bring leadership and knowledge to FFA members, delivering motivational speeches and serving as advocates for FFA on a global scale.

National FFA officers are selected by a nominating committee at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

BECOME A NATIONAL OFFICER

It takes a highly motivated person to become a successful national FFA officer—an opportunity afforded to few members. If you want to be a national officer, take time now to learn about your passions and gain a better understanding of what life as a national officer is really like. A life of glamour and glory—maybe, but the truth is that as a national officer, your life is non-stop hard work and continual commitments.

Each state may declare one candidate for national FFA office annually. National officer candidates must be active FFA members, must hold the American FFA Degree at the time of election, and must retain active membership through their term of office. FFA members employed by the National FFA Organization or serving on a national FFA nominating committee are ineligible.

State FFA staff must initiate the national officer candidate application process. The 2024 nomination committee recommendations and application system will open on May 1, 2024. Individuals must be approved by state FFA staff.

JOIN THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE
FFA National Officer Candidates for 2024

Keeping with the traditions of a student-run organization, a committee of nine FFA members is selected to carry out the responsibility of interviewing and selecting the national officer team. Being a part of this unique group requires a sense of commitment to the betterment of the organization and a heart for service. The committee will put in many hours in preparation for the National FFA Convention & Expo.

The student nominating committee is assisted by a number of adults who serve as consultants to the process and student committee. The adults involved must have a desire to see students grow. This is essential in releasing control to the student committee and allowing them to do much of the thinking. Asking questions, probing committee members’ understanding, and advising when necessary requires patience and a strong commitment to student success.

Any active FFA member is eligible to serve on the committee. The 2024 National Officer Candidate declaration and application system will open May 1, 2024. Individuals must be approved by state FFA staff.
