In every FFA chapter, there are those who quietly but powerfully shape the lives of students — leaders who devote themselves to cultivating not just knowledge of agriculture, but also confidence, character and direction. One such leader is Jessica Ross, an agriculture educator at Hendersonville High School. With a heart for service and a passion for growth, she has become a cornerstone of her school’s four-teacher agriculture program and an inspiration to all who cross her path.

Ross brings her unique expertise to life through her specialization in floral design, floral development and agriscience. Her classes are known for being engaging and hands-on — where students don’t just sit and take notes, but learn by doing. Whether constructing floral arrangements, conducting plant experiments, or diving into interactive agriscience labs, she creates an environment where students can get their hands dirty and their minds inspired. Her classroom is a space where curiosity is welcomed, mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities, and students leave each day with more confidence in their abilities.

But what truly sets Ross apart is her commitment to making a lasting impact beyond lesson plans or classroom projects. Her dedication to Forestry Camp is a testament to that. Each year, she pours her energy into preparing students not just for competition, but for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the outdoors. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and she’s often seen encouraging students to push past their limits, even when the path is steep — literally and figuratively.

Students admire Ross for seeing them as individuals, not just future agriculturists. She invests in their futures no matter what career path they choose. Whether a student dreams of being a veterinarian, a mechanic, a teacher, or something entirely different, she believes in their potential and helps them believe in it, too.

“Mrs. Ross never fails to light up a room,” shared Keely Fitzgerald, a senior at Hendersonville. “She is the reason I’ve grown into who I am today.”

Her influence doesn’t end at the school’s doors. Ross is deeply involved in the Hendersonville community, consistently looking for ways to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. From planning floral sales to organizing service projects, she ensures her students grow into leaders who care about where they come from — and where they’re headed.

“Mrs. Ross teaches more than just agriculture,” said Cody Johnson, a recent graduate. “She teaches us about life — how to work hard, how to care for others and how to never give up on yourself.”

Ross exemplifies the heart of agricultural education. Through her unwavering dedication, creative spirit and genuine care for every student, she continues to shape not only the future of agriculture but the future of countless young lives. Hendersonville High School and its FFA chapter are undoubtedly stronger because of her.
