The Williamsfield FFA Alumni and Friends is dedicated to serving not only the local FFA chapter but also the Illinois community.
This alumni chapter believes in service, building relationships with students and providing support through events and mentorship. Taking a personalized approach, members of this chapter work one-on-one with students to ensure their success, both within and beyond FFA. From organizing events like Ag Day to offering career guidance and scholarships, these alumni demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the next generation of agricultural leaders.
One of the group’s biggest projects was the Barn Playground. What began as a dream became a larger event than expected, thanks to strong volunteer support throughout the building phase. On the final day of work, several generations worked together with an overwhelming sense of community. This project won the community the Governor’s Hometown Cup Award in 2019.
Their mission goes beyond the chapter—it’s about creating opportunities, inspiring growth and building a lasting legacy. By bridging connections within the community, the alumni chapter ensures that students are equipped with the tools they need to thrive.
The alumni group also ensures members get the most out of FFA by providing financial support. For example, the chapter offers scholarships to help members after they graduate from high school.
“Being able to support them with scholarships is huge,” alumni member Haley Howerton said. “They’re going to use those skills that they learn in college and at events far beyond the classroom.”
The alumni also work tirelessly to help prepare students for competitions. Whether reviewing a resume, helping lead mock interviews or going outside in a soil pit to help a team prepare, they are committed to helping members succeed.
But it’s not just about giving. According to Jeff Campbell, when a storm had wrecked his yard, the FFA chapter and several alumni showed up and got to work. “It’s not always just alumni giving back to students,” he says. “As an alum who’s actively involved, I feel like I get a lot out of the program as well.”
What sets the Williamsfield FFA Alumni and Friends apart is their passion for service and ability to inspire others. Whether through their teamwork at large events or the quiet, behind-the-scenes efforts that leave a lasting impact, their dedication is evident. For these alumni, it’s not just about getting students through high school—it’s a lifelong commitment to their success.
“[Being an alumnus] means someone you can count on,” says Marsha Strom. “It’s bringing generations of families together at Ag Day, volunteering and helping to grow leaders for the future. It‘s a blessing to be a part of.”
