Logan FFA exemplifies community service and good citizenship through a canned food drive. During the week of Dec. 9-12, 2024, the chapter cooperated with the Logan National Honor Society chapter to collect 745 cans.

“It was very successful because we had more cans donated this year than last year,” says Junior Braedan Lightfoot, adding that the cans were delivered to the Ministry of Hope Center in Tucumcari, N.M.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Hall said her chapter office helped determine her role. “As reporter, I helped spread the word about it,” she says.

According to Sophomore Trinity Grant, there are perks to donating to the canned food drive. “Whoever brings the most cans gets a Coca-Cola float party, which gets the elementary students excited,” she says.

For Senior Greyson Bollinger, “My favorite part of the drive was seeing the school battling to see who could bring more cans.”

Senior Charmaynn Hall appreciated this service opportunity. “My goal was to help out the community during the Christmas season, but also show students the good in contributing to their community,” she says. “I want the students to take pride in their community and make sure that they know the value in community service.”

For chapters looking to do a similar project, Hall says the key is to find a need and address it. “It is important to know the ‘why’ of service before you know ‘what,’” she adds.
