“Living to Serve” is one of the key parts of the FFA motto. It means that a person, club or community strives to serve others.
The Conrad FFA Chapter is a strong example of what “Living to Serve” means. Although it’s located in a small town, the chapter’s love for the community is big. There are numerous ways members give back to the community because they are ready to serve others around them.
For example, Conrad FFA starts the school year with its annual highway litter and pollution cleanup. The highway is one-and-a-quarter miles long, and members compete to see who can pick up the most trash. This year, a group of girls filled three trash bags.
“It’s very fun and we find a lot of hidden treasures!” says Kyron, a Conrad FFA member who has attended the highway cleanup twice. “I believe this tradition should be continued in the future because it serves our community.”
In addition to the highway cleanup, chapter members also donate their time and money to prepare dinners for local farmers during the harvest season. These dinners include chips, drinks, beverages, fruit and some protein.
Embodying “Living to Serve” is often not a struggle for Conrad FFA because it represents the backbone of this chapter.
