The Dover FFA Chapter in York, Penn., has an annual event that shows the future of agriculture will hold true for generations to come in its local community. This event is called Dover FFA Day, and it’s free to the public.

We have various workshops set up that show the public the skills we learn in our three program areas: horticulture, agricultural mechanics and general agriculture,” says Dover FFA Sentinel Jacqueline Bogus. “We provide stations about seed planting, floral decorating, canine CPR and tractor olympics that show various aspects of our programs. We also have Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects on display.”

This event also showcases the area’s local businesses, which creates a connection between the school and the community.

“I look forward to seeing all of the vendors and what products they have to offer,” says Dover FFA advisor Britney Marsh. “It’s really cool to see the diversity within our small community.”

The bonds members create showcase the dedication this chapter has to connecting with its community on multiple levels. From growing members’ public speaking skills to learning about local businesses, this event, which is now in its fourth year, creates a sense of home within the community and ensures that FFA will continue to serve members for years to come.
