Opening Session Brings the Energy

From pre-session dance parties to music from the National FFA Band and Chorus, keynote speeches and more, the opening session was the perfect way to kick off this year’s 97th National FFA Convention & Expo.

According to Tongue River Valley FFA member and first-time convention attendee Hattie Hossfeld, the crowd felt larger than life.

“This is definitely a lot more than the population of any town I’ve ever been in before,” Hossfeld says. “But it’s a great experience to see all these new people.”

After watching convention coverage from home in the past, Baldwin FFA member Amelia Behrends says Lucas Oil Stadium seems much larger in person than she thought it was. “It’s kind of cool to see how big it actually is,” she says.

Although many FFA members were inspired by this session, others are tuning in to the excitement, too. Alma FFA advisor Gracie Hewat brought students to convention from Arkansas, which has helped her see convention from their perspective.

“This is actually my third time being here,” Hewat says. “I think I came in 2017, when I was in high school. Then I came in college to receive my American FFA Degree. This is my first year with students, so it’s really exciting for me. I know they’re going to love it, and I’m really excited to experience that with them.”
