Items donated by students from the southeast region for the Hurricane Helene supply drive.
Hurricane Helene was one of the most destructive hurricanes in North Carolina. More specifically, it brought unexpected and catastrophic destruction to the western part of the state, and the full extent of its damage is still being assessed.
In response to the news about what occurred, the North Carolina southeast region FFA officer team saw a need and immediately sprung into action. They decided to host a supply drive for those affected by the hurricane to give FFA members in their region an opportunity to create a positive impact during their annual Regional Leadership Conference (RLC).
The Southeast RLC took place on Oct. 3, 2024, at North Lenoir High School. Chapters were encouraged to bring items that would be donated to western North Carolina, and the turnout was a success.
Multiple boxes of items were lined up in the school’s lobby that were brought by FFA chapters. Items ranged from paper towels and water to cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items and more.
In addition to the hurricane relief supply drive, RLC included more than 10 different workshops that covered topics like teamwork, FFA knowledge, opportunities and more. Students were divided by grade level, and there was a college and career fair for upperclassman to visit.
The regional officers wanted to leave a positive impact on those around them, and this was a great way to do so.
