Versailles FFA members attend the National FFA Convention & Expo.
We are approaching the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo, which has been held annually — except for a few interruptions during World War II — since the foundation of FFA in 1928.
The National FFA Convention & Expo brings members from across the nation together in Indianapolis, where they will listen to keynote speakers, attend educational and leadership workshops and explore their future in agriculture by meeting with companies and universities.
But it’s not all work; members also have opportunities to enjoy a concert and recreational activities and network with fellow members and industry professionals.
Versailles FFA Treasurer Lanie Bailey has attended National Convention three times. When asked about her motivation to continue attending, she said, “I want to go because it is an amazing opportunity to meet other FFA members from across the country and gain not only knowledge in FFA but also leadership skills.”
Versailles FFA members who have attended National Convention agree that they would recommend it to members who haven’t been before. They also shared some advice on what to pack and fun activities to seek out while in Indianapolis.
National FFA Convention Advice
Versailles FFA President Ryatt Haggerman encourages members to remember to pack deodorant for the long days filled with walking. He also recommends visiting Kamrat Deere Farm, where he saw the “cutest deer” he’s ever seen.
Versailles FFA Vice President Drake Schmidt reminds FFA members to pack their Official Dress, snacks, a portable charger and a pillow and blanket for the bus ride. He suggests trying out the Gameshow Battle Room when not attending convention events.
Bailey wants to ensure that no one faces a pantyhose emergency and encourages members to pack extra pantyhose because “they will rip, and you will need more.” She enjoyed her time at a local Indianapolis bee farm in previous years.
Versailles FFA Junior Vice President Andrew Schad emphasizes comfort at the convention, advising members to pack comfy clothes and dress for the weather. He also embraces the Halloween spirit and suggests visiting a pumpkin patch during convention.
