No greater joy exists than sharing joy with those around you. To watch a 5-year-old parade spectator’s face light up with joy from an act of kindness as simple as giving them a free bag of popcorn is nothing short of amazing.
This year, the Depew FFA kicked off the first community service event of the new school year doing just that — sharing joy with those in their community with a simple act of service.
Strong Tradition
For years, the Masonic Lodge and FFA have worked closely together to create a better future for our communities and youth.
Depew FFA teamed up with a group of Shriners from across northeast Oklahoma to create a positive experience for those attending the Bristow Western Heritage Day Parade. Depew FFA members assisted the Shriners with making, bagging and giving popcorn to the spectators that lined the streets of Bristow as they waited for the passing parade.
The parade took place on a busy Saturday morning, just after the rain had passed. It is part of a weekend-long community celebration of the Western history and culture of Bristow and the surrounding areas. This year was the 62nd annual town celebration of Bristow Western Heritage Day.
As the parade passed down Main Street Bristow, which is also along historic Route 66, the Shriners and Depew FFA members made their way through the crowd, handing out bags of free popcorn to anyone who wanted it.
Depew FFA members volunteering their time included Larami Fenton, Ava Freeze, Atticus Hoover, Hayden Moore, Taylor McLain, Audrey Hoover, Addyson Hunter, Eli Hoover and Tyse Buck. These Depew FFA members passed out more than 100 bags of popcorn to spectators, both young and old.
Learning Life Lessons
The Shriners have a long history of collaborating with Oklahoma FFA to make a positive difference in the lives of its members. It is an honor for Depew FFA to work alongside an organization that has had such an impact on communities across the nation. Those who attended this event experienced the words and actions of the FFA motto, “Earning to Live” and “Living to Serve.”
