Victory Field has long been a notable landmark in downtown Indianapolis, and this week FFA members from across the nation can receive a behind-the-scenes look at how field staff prepare for game days.
The location is a host site for one of the 25 Career Success Tours that will provide FFA members with a detailed look at eight different agricultural career pathways during national convention. These pathways include everything from animal and plant sciences to agribusiness, biotechnology, national resources, environmental service systems and more.
Joey Stephenson, director of field operations at Victory Field, is sharing his expertise this week through providing tours to FFA members and advisors.
“Many people don’t think of grass as a crop, but it is for us,” he adds. “It’s the growing of the grass, maintaining it year round and making sure it’s safe and playable for our team.”
As an Illinois FFA alumnus, Stevenson remembers exploring agricultural careers, which he says influenced the decision to pursue his chosen career.
“I think it just opened my eyes because we did a turf management section and I realized, ‘Oh, this is a thing,’” he adds.
