FFA members who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education in an area of agriculture have the helpful opportunity to speak with representatives from dozens of colleges and universities at the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa (Minn.) FFA member Eddie Winters says he was able to ask prospective colleges about the programs they offer and the process for out-of-state students. The options represented meet most every need and interest.
“I love math. I love agriculture,” says Winters, who is interested in ag engineering.
“We even have (majors) like agricultural systems technology, which is an engineering-type degree,” Oklahoma State University prospective student coordinator Chesley Comstock says.
FFA members are also interested in the scholarships that the schools offer.
“I think I would have a competitive advantage in scholarships because I’ve participated in multiple FFA competitions,” says Samantha Hawk, a member of the North Harford FFA in Maryland.
North Dakota State University is even giving students a chance for a scholarship just for stopping at its booth.
“This week alone, I’m giving away a $2,500 scholarship to any FFA member who’s here that’s maybe interested in a major within the college of ag,” says Blaine Novak, recruitment coordinator at North Dakota State University. “Otherwise, our college alone offers $850,000 worth of scholarships based on everything from interest area to financial need.”
Be sure to research scholarship opportunities with the schools you are interested in. Also keep National FFA Scholarships in mind. Applications are open November 1, 2024 through January 9, 2025.
