Winning the Kentucky FFA state talent competition led Dillon Carmichael to transform his talents into a full-time career. As a Burgin Independent FFA member, Carmichael remembers attending concerts held during national conventions. This year he’s attending as a concert performer, which has been what he calls a “bucket list” experience.
“In some way, shape or form, I’ve been involved with the national convention over the years,” he says. “I love it and I have my best memories here.”
Although Carmichael didn’t know what he wanted to do as a career in high school, he grew up in a farming community and loved singing. He decided to sign up for agriculture classes and join FFA and, through these experiences, found a way to combine his interests in agriculture and country music. He also served as his chapter’s treasurer, competed in the parliamentary procedure leadership development event (LDE) and won the regional and state FFA talent competitions.
“I was super proud to win the state talent show and it really gave me the bug,” he says.
