We’re celebrating several big milestones at the 96th National FFA Convention & Expo, including the 75th anniversary of the National FFA Chorus. Sponsored by FFA corporate partner Corteva Agriscience, the program made its debut in 1948 at the 20th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
“Students audition in the summertime, come together and learn the music on their own,” says Kristy Britton, National FFA Chorus director. “We’re only meeting to rehearse and perform together for a week, so it’s pretty incredible to see all of those students come from all over the country to make music together.”
Some of this year’s chorus members were invited to sing the national anthem before the Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday, Oct. 29. Chorus members will also perform several times throughout the week of national convention, including during the FFA Band and Chorus Concert scheduled for 6:00 p.m. during the sixth general session.
“It’s an overwhelming excitement and it’s beyond any feeling I’ve ever had,” says Purcell FFA member Kaden Pliler. “It’s such an honor and a big responsibility. You have to remember these special moments because they don’t last forever.”
