Career and Leadership Events (CDE/LDE)

Since 1928, the National FFA Organization has worked to create career and leadership development events (CDEs/LDEs) that demonstrate the meaningful connections between classroom instruction and real-life scenarios. CDEs and LDEs are designed to help prepare FFA members for challenging careers in agriculture and build upon what members learn in agricultural classes and FFA.

CDEs and LDEs test the abilities of individuals and teams in 25 major areas of agricultural instruction. Youth travel from across the country to participate at the national level. Through intense hands-on activities, FFA members are asked to perform specific career skills that will help them develop technical knowledge, decision-making, reasoning and more. Industry professionals serve as judges so that the participants can see how they would perform in actual careers.

Years of study, training and practice paid off for this year’s participants. The results of each event were announced during the National FFA Convention & Expo. Throughout the general sessions, the high team and individuals were recognized on stage. Winning teams and high individuals received scholarships.

Agricultural Proficiency Awards

Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students compete in areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Proficiency awards are also recognized at local and state levels and provide recognition to members exploring and becoming established in agricultural career pathways.

Titus Montgomery

Titus has a weekly radio report called the Southeast Oklahoma Ag Report, which can be heard three times each weekday on The Mix 93.1 FM. Montgomery also started a podcast, “Brag on Ag,” which he produces on his own and is published on all major podcast listening apps. His Supervised Agricultural Experiences have provided him with skills in radio programming and production, advocacy and research, public speaking and writing, and even merchandising. Montgomery is a member of the Red Oak FFA Chapter in Oklahoma, and his FFA advisors are Troy Walker and Leland Walker.

Sophia Gomes

Sophia Gomes has focused her Supervised Agricultural Experience projects on building skills for her future as a middle school agriculture teacher. Through internships with the International Agri-Center and the local University of California extension office, an ambassadorship on the California Milk Advisory Board, and as a facilitator for California FFA Greenhand Leadership Conferences, she has gained experience developing lessons, working with young students in classrooms, and delivering content through virtual and in-person presentations. Gomes is a member of the Tulare FFA Chapter in California, and her FFA advisors are Patrick Mederos, Jared Castle, Samantha Day and Jonathan Woodard.

Gracie Sprague

Gracie Sprague is a supplement dealer selling three products for eight different livestock species. Sprague has learned to operate independently and is responsible for ordering inventory and monitoring sales, customer communication, marketing, and more. Primarily serving livestock exhibitors as customers, Sprague has also served as a mentor and teacher to young people in the industry. Sprague is a member of the Genoa-Penta FFA Chapter in Ohio, and her FFA advisor is Tricia Schoen.

Jack Schuster

Jack Schuster excelled in his Supervised Agricultural Experience working for the local Ace Hardware store. Schuster was made head of the paint department and promoted to storewide assistant manager due to his drive and dedication to learning about all aspects of the store. Schuster gained leadership skills through training and managing employees, as well as business skills such as invoicing and sales. Schuster is a member of the Marshall FFA Chapter in Wisconsin, and his FFA advisor is Paula Bakken.

Trinity Blosch

Trinity Blosch has a Supervised Agricultural Experience involving five years of research on social, environmental, and food systems. Over the years, Blosch has significantly progressed in the complexity of her projects. Her research has included evaluating consumer and student knowledge about food and agriculture and testing bioremediation products used in contaminated fresh water. Blosch is a member of the Stillwater FFA Chapter in Oklahoma, and her FFA advisors are Bailey Kliewer, Carl Nipper, and Robby Branscum.

Jeremy Eaton

Jeremy Eaton works for a company that offers agriculture-related services by providing custom forage crop harvesting, including cutting, raking, baling and hauling hay. Eaton is responsible for operating a variety of equipment and interacting with hay producers. Eaton is a member of the Galt FFA Chapter in California, and his FFA advisors are Carl Wright, Derek Silva, Jordan Albiani and Patrick MacDonald.

Hayley Ann Hines

Hayley Ann Hines runs a food pantry at her school for students in need. In 2023, she collected $3,500 in non-perishable donations and over $13,000 in financial contributions for the pantry. Hines used grant funding to raise chickens and pigs, and the meat was used as a protein source for the pantry. Hines is a member of the Paola FFA Chapter in Kansas, and her FFA advisors are John Menefee and Thomas Schull.

Alyx Johnson

Alyx Johnson studies a variety of conditions, and possible treatments and prevention methods to improve swine health. By doing research in areas that affect herd health, Johnson has built a knowledge base she can use to guide future health-related decisions within her own herd. Johnson is a member of the Woodland FFA Chapter in Alabama and her FFA advisor is Brad Johnson.

Raegan Gilbert

Raegan Gilbert maximizes production in her herd using embryo transfer synchronization, vet-developed vaccine protocol, meticulous record-keeping, and other strategies. Gilbert expanded her herd from 10 cows in 2019 to 21 registered Angus, Simmental, and Commercial cattle in 2023. Gilbert is a member of the Banks County FFA Chapter in Georgia and her FFA advisors are Kipp Jackson, and Christopher Crump.

Cecillia LeaAnn Newby works for Newby Show Cattle and D/N Cattle Company. Newby performs vaccinations, chooses sires for breeding, administers growth implants, and assists with artificial insemination and embryo transfers, among other things. With 10 years of livestock judging, Newby is skilled in finding new replacement animals to incorporate into the herd. Newby is a member of the Labette County FFA Chapter in Kansas and her FFA advisors are Kyle Zwahlen, Dustin Wiley and Keith Geren.

Cade Claycomb runs his dairy production business where he has a 42-head herd on 36 acres. With a focus on improved herd genetics in his operation, Claycomb markets around 9,400 pounds of milk each week. Claycomb is a member of the Trenton FFA Chapter in Missouri and his FFA advisors are Kabel Oaks and Sadie Roy.

Troy Homan works at his family’s dairy farm, which consists of 320 Holstein cows and 300 heifers. Homan has helped with the planning and construction of new projects to help improve the operation. Homan also conducts the operation’s herd health program by preventing and treating illnesses. Homan is a member of the New Bremen FFA Chapter in Ohio and his FFA advisor is Maria Homan.

Kaleb James Ellis

Kaleb James Ellis has multiple Supervised Agricultural Experiences including working on the family’s farm which operates with 500 row crop acres, 200 head of beef cattle and 200,000 broiler chickens. Ellis also raises and sells hogs as an entrepreneurship project, farms his own row crops, and works for an additional diversified farm. Ellis is a member of the Cochrane Fountain City FFA Chapter in Wisconsin and FFA advisors are Christine Jumbeck and Deanna Wiersgalla.

Hayden Hubbard

Hayden Hubbard operates an operation with show pigs, show cattle and market steers. He has also diversified his production to include processed meat for consumers. Hubbard has gained an increased understanding of genetics, pedigrees, and performance data for livestock. He is a member of the Burns FFA Chapter in Wyoming, and his FFA advisor is William Luna.

Taylor Barraclough

Taylor Barraclough established her business, Violet Sales, to breed, raise, and sell horses. She has grown operations from basic care into strategic breeding, investment, marketing and sales. Barraclough is a member of the Schuylerville FFA Chapter in New York, and her FFA advisor is Mary-Elizabeth Foote.

Lucy Barney

Lucy Barney is a fifth-generation horse breeder who is employed by two separate draft horse operations. Barney’s responsibilities include feeding, regular strength training, grooming, horse selection, and marketing. Additionally, Barney trains horses for and competes in draft horse shows. Barney is a member of the Rigby FFA Chapter in Idaho and her FFA advisors are Lex Godfrey, Robert Hale, Casey Sanders and Courtney Knickrehm.

Addyson Schneberger

Addyson Schneberger has a goat operation that consists of a breeding herd of donor females, 37 Spanish recipient does, and 16 fall-born babies. In her enterprise, Schneberger uses advanced reproductive practices and has increased revenue through online marketing. She is a member of the Hydro-Eakly FFA Chapter in Oklahoma, and her advisor is Chris Klaassen.

Nathan Hutchison

Nathan Hutchison has a five-year-old poultry production with broilers, turkeys, hens and chicks. Hutchison sells packaged poultry products and eggs to restaurants, local community members, and customers across the state. Hutchison has earned a California egg handlers license, a California business license and USDA processing exemption. Hutchison is a member of the Madera-Liberty FFA Chapter in California and his FFA advisors are Jewlia Winter, Katie Mellott, Keenan Quintana and Madison Galvez.

Kaylee Dunn

Kaylee Dunn works on her family’s sheep operation. Dunn has learned how to keep and cull ewes and how to pair sheep for breeding and shows. Dunn’s knowledge has also expanded to include the rise and fall of market prices within the industry, the best time to sell ewes, and how to market a wether sheep to fit customers’ needs. Dunn is a member of the Canyon FFA Chapter in Texas, and her FFA advisors are Jeff Klose and Jennifer Barton.

Presley Merritt

Presley Merritt runs an operation that breeds and competitively shows velveteen lop rabbits. She handles the breeding, birthing, care, and marketing of her rabbits, and she conducts rabbit care workshops and mentors local youth. Merritt is a member of the Anna FFA Chapter in Texas, and her FFA advisors are Kaitlin Tyler, Joe Molina, and Ashley Sturdivant.

Max Landon

Max Landon’s Supervised Agricultural Experience is working at his family’s apiary business. Landon has learned how to perform a full range of beekeeping production from selecting breeder queens for their genetic qualities to independently managing a beehive. Landon is a member of the Durham FFA Chapter in California and his FFA advisors are Makenna Luce, Wes Bill and Chloe Bristow.

Hannah Miller

Hannah Miller has an award-winning operation that is comprised of swine breeding and showpig sales. Miller’s herd went from 18 pigs in 2021 to 60 in 2023. In just three years, Miller also increased her breeding swine’s conception rate from 66% to 100%. Miller is a member of the Prairie Central FFA Chapter in Illinois and her FFA advisors are Becky Freed, Kylie Miller, Kyle Miller and Tyson Stork.

Tucker Wayne Leck has been promoted from farm assistant to herd manager at Leck Family Showpigs during his three years working there. In addition to increasing his hands-on farm duties and livestock management skills, Leck has also handled marketing outreach and communication with buyers. Leck is a member of the Neodesha FFA Chapter in Kansas, and his FFA advisor is Emma Lehmann.

Emma Brandenburg works at a local vet clinic, where she started in 2022 as a kennel technician. Working her way up to veterinary assistant, Brandenburg has diversified her experience and knowledge and is now able to run tests, assist in surgeries, and educate clients, in addition to other duties. Brandenburg is a member of the Felicity-Franklin FFA Chapter in Ohio and her FFA advisors are Holly Jennings and Joe Broadwell.

Connor Paulk

Connor Paulk established his business, Paulk’s Produce, in 2020. Paulk offers customers processing and packaging of southern peas, butterbeans, tomatoes, and green beans. To successfully grow his company, Paulk created and implemented a marketing plan, utilized a recordkeeping system to project needs, purchased equipment to increase production, and hired and trained employees. Paulk is a member of the Irwin County FFA Chapter in Georgia and his FFA advisors are Chris Paulk, Wesley Paulk and Shayla Johnson.

Jack Walters

Jack Walters designs, manufactures, and markets swine scales for his Supervised Agricultural Experience. After conquering time management challenges, developing more efficient manufacturing, receiving several certifications and gaining sales abilities, Walters’s business and his professional network have grown. Walters plans to have a career as an agriculture equipment sales representative. Walters is a member of the Brock FFA Chapter in Texas and his FFA advisors are Mark Sullivan, Laura Horner, Brock Burch and Jack Pritchard.

Joseph Michael Robinson

Joseph Michael Robinson began his project by changing engine and hydraulic oils, coolant, fuel filters, air filters, cabin air filters, and greasing all machines at A and R Farms. Robinson also runs his own business, where he repairs and restores parts and agricultural machinery, sometimes reselling parts for profit. Through his Supervised Agricultural Experience, Robinson has gained knowledge in billing and finance, time management, and entrepreneurial adaptability. Robinson is a member of the Mineral Point FFA Chapter in Wisconsin and FFA advisor is Mike Robinson.

Logan Wood

Logan Wood works as a mechanic for Sherwood Inc., a company that harvests nearly 10,000 acres of almonds and pistachios annually. Wood maintains the company’s equipment and diagnoses issues, as well as performs engine, hydraulic and electrical repairs. Wood has also shadowed his employer to learn more about the business responsibilities of billing, payroll, and customer and vendor relationships. Wood is a member of the Fresno-Central FFA Chapter in California and his FFA advisors are Taree Downs, Jessica Fahey, June Bettencourt and Chris Williams.

Alethea Dunn

Alethea Dunn completed three research projects. Her projects have focused on increasing sustainability in the agricultural industry through hydroponic systems. Dunn has used her findings to educate her fellow students and other external FFA members outside of the chapter about sustainable and progressive agriculture practices. Dunn is a member of the Stewarts Creek FFA Chapter in Tennessee and her FFA advisors are Lindsey Nicholas and Mandy King.

Ryder Klaassen

Ryder Klaassen rents three farms and grows wheat, black-eyed peas, mung beans, and cotton in rotation. He has negotiated and held several contracts in domestic and global markets. Klaassen is a member of the Hydro-Eakly FFA Chapter in Oklahoma, and his FFA advisor is Chris Klaassen.

Drevin Cory Wilkerson

Drevin Cory Wilkerson works for a diversified specialty and row crop operation that consists of 400 acres of peanuts, 300 acres of cotton, and 310 acres of produce. Wilkerson is also employed at a 625-acre carrot production operation. Wilkerson is a member of the Cook High FFA Chapter in Georgia and his FFA advisors are Brandon White, Ren Hester and Justin Watson.

Ava S. Bullard

Ava S. Bullard began her Supervised Agricultural Experience by growing 10 types of flowers in beds around her family’s home and making bouquets. In three years, Bullard’s cut flower operation and sales had grown to cover more than 32,000 square feet and 20 kinds of flowers. To build a greenhouse for her business, Bullard exchanged labor on her family’s livestock farm for lumber. Bullard is a member of the Ashland FFA Chapter in Missouri, and her FFA advisors are Jeff Suthoff and Rebekah Hammett.

Noah Thomas Wiley

Noah Thomas Wiley works on a farm consisting of 2,000 acres of highly productive crop ground that grows early soybeans as well as double-crop soybeans. Mowing, bean scouting, combine operation and maintenance, grain cart operation, and planting are just some of the duties Wiley performs. Wiley is a member the of the Labette County FFA Chapter in Kansas, and his FFA advisors are Rocky Becker, Dustin Wiley, and Kyle Zwahlen.

Cade Stafford

Cade Stafford started his Supervised Agricultural Experience managing the farm’s hay crop under the supervision of his advisor. Stafford then began farming forage crops on his own in 2021 to produce high-quality, nutritious forage for livestock that is produced cost-effectively. In 2023, Stafford farmed 278 acres and sold 6,800 bales of hay. Stafford is a member of the Sutter FFA Chapter in California and his FFA advisors are Jake Wheeler, Kate Wilson, and Amanda Dowden.

Ethan Stone has worked in his family’s pecan orchard since 2018 and has since learned a wide variety of production skills. Stone is a member of the Chandler FFA Chapter in Oklahoma and his FFA advisors are Marcus Dunn and Madison Deeds.

Anna Chaliff works in a greenhouse that raises ornamentals, vegetables, mums and herbs for selling. Chaliff is a member of the Rockcastle County FFA Chapter in Kentucky, and her FFA advisors Harvey Mink and William Whitaker.

Long is a member of the Shields Valley FFA Chapter in Montana and his FFA advisor is J.R. Pierce.

Riley McDermott has learned about all the components of vegetable production through her business Tilled to Table. McDermott reaches customers through a roadside stand and as a permanent vendor at the county farmer’s market. In addition to selling 13 types of vegetables from her 4,300-square-foot garden, she is also in charge of maintaining profitability, setting prices, evaluating business practices, and building customer rapport. National FFA Agriscience Fair

The National FFA Agriscience Fair recognizes students who gain real-world, hands-on experiences in agricultural enterprises. Students use scientific principles and emerging technologies to solve complex problems related to agriculture, food and natural resources. The agriscience fair is for middle and high school students. Students compete in one of six categories in the agriscience fair and under one of six divisions — either individually or as a team.

Middle School Model Of Excellence

Signal Knob FFA | Virginia

Signal Knob Middle FFA of Virginia officers arranged for a representative from an agricultural artificial intelligence technology company to present a workshop for students. FFA members engaged with an industry professional for a one-hour workshop, allowing students to create agriculture research projects. The chapter also hosted a “Spectacular Start Picnic” at the beginning of the school year with FFA members, families, community members, the high school FFA chapter, and their FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter.

Model Of Excellence

Dixie FFA | Florida

Dixie FFA of Florida worked with local garden clubs to landscape city hall with Florida native plants and drip irrigation. A total of 23 FFA members participated in the landscaping project, volunteering a total of 137 hours. After Hurricane Idalia made landfall causing power outages and property damage, the chapter partnered with a local barbecue restaurant to cook and serve over 300 chicken dinners. The dinners were provided for free to community members in need.

Cambridge FFA | Illinois

Cambridge FFA of Illinois created the “Día de la Agricultura” program which immerses elementary students in Spanish vocabulary through agriculture storybooks created and read by FFA members. The event aims to foster a love for learning and cultural appreciation by integrating language skills with agricultural experiences, culminating with a piñata celebration. Twenty-four FFA members spent a total of five hours planning, organizing, and implementing the activity.

Strengthening Agriculture

Beauregard FFA | Alabama

The Beauregard FFA Chapter conducted a tire pressure check station for members of the community. The station consisted of checking vehicle tire pressure, filling tires to the appropriate PSI, and educating community members on how proper tire care can not only increase the life of their tires but also provide a safer driving experience. Seventy-five trained FFA members operated the “Inflation Station.”

Building Communities

Felicity-Franklin FFA | Ohio

Felicity-Franklin FFA of Ohio hosted “SURVIVOR WEEK: Creating Capable Cardinals,” a school-wide event where students rotated through real-world activity stations to learn hands-on skills and become capable citizens. FFA members developed nine different experiential life skills stations, created challenges to encourage participation, and designed a relay race that tested the students’ knowledge at the end of the week. The event connected 137 students with 20 teachers who served as mentors during rounds at the skills stations.

Outstanding FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter: Washington County Kansas FFA Alumni and Supporters (Central Region)

The Washington County FFA Alumni and Supporters chapter serves as a model for business operations, alumni and supporter member development, advocacy, student development, agricultural education, and FFA program development. The chapter identified the need to send FFA members to leadership conferences and conventions, as well as provide college scholarships. To address this need, they organized an auction of donated items which involved FFA members, alumni, business owners, and the community. The auction helped raise over $41,000, which funded opportunities for 62 members, five $500 SAE grants, and three $2,000 scholarships. Additionally, the chapter facilitated the placement of 20 students in year-round SAE jobs at businesses owned by the alumni and supporter members. So far, these students have collectively invested more than 10,000 hours in gaining real-world experience in their areas of interest.

The Wisconsin FFA Alumni and Supporters are highly active in providing year-round support to students and teachers. Sectional representatives play a vital role in maintaining chapters by organizing two informational sectional meetings annually. The association has sponsored 16 students to participate in the Washington Leadership Conference with a total scholarship donation of $9,600. During the alumni state convention, local chapters submit award applications for their local agriculture teacher to be recognized and receive an award. At the 2024 Alumni Convention, 11 Outstanding Agriculture Educators were honored, and $600 in cash prizes were awarded.

Outstanding Corporate FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter: BASF FFA Alumni and Supporters (Southern Region)

Located in the Southern Region, the BASF FFA Alumni and Supporters Corporate Chapter has set up a structured system for discussions and sharing opportunities with their members, 60% of whom are located remotely. The Leadership Team schedules dates, identifies key members to highlight, and focuses on these aspects during quarterly meetings, which has led to a 30% increase in membership. The chapter also organized a special initiative during National FFA Week where donors who gave at least $100 on Give FFA Day were entered into a drawing for one of five $1,000 grants to be awarded to a local FFA Chapter of their choice. Additionally, the chapter has collaborated with 29 states to support and promote FFA State Officer Training. The BASF FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter has played a significant role in nurturing the future of FFA.

National FFA Alumni and Supporters Outstanding Achievement

Cheryl Steinbach, Granton FFA Alumni and Supporters chapter, Wisconsin

Steinbach brings three decades of dedicated service to agricultural education. As a lifetime member, her efforts have established invaluable partnerships between Granton FFA Alumni and local businesses, resulting in generous donations and widespread support for FFA chapters across the state. Notably, she established the Francis Steiner Memorial Bowling Tournament, which for the last 12 years has brought in several thousands of dollars to the alumni and supporters chapter. She recently concluded her impactful tenure as the Executive Director for Wisconsin FFA Alumni and Supporters. Cheryl actively participates in national calls, conducts engaging virtual workshops, and provides invaluable mentorship to fellow educators. Her tireless dedication to expanding and sustaining agricultural education programs in Wisconsin has left an indelible mark on numerous FFA activities and events, inspiring positive change and growth.

Tim Zenger, Washington County FFA Alumni and Supporters chapter, Kansas

Zenger has made a significant impact on the FFA at all levels. His strong community relationships and increased fundraising efforts helped grow his local chapter fundraising auction from a $8-10,000 annual fundraiser when he joined the council to a record $45,000 event in 2023. Tim’s efforts have led to a substantial increase in FFA Alumni membership and the establishment of various membership incentive programs. His excellent community outreach, active involvement in fundraising and scholarship programs, and dedication to various FFA activities have been instrumental in supporting the FFA chapter and advisors. Tim’s leadership has not only transformed the Washington County FFA Alumni and Supporters chapter but has also had a ripple effect on the entire FFA community in Kansas.

Fred Troendle, St. Charles FFA Alumni and Supporters chapter, Minnesota

Troendle has played a pivotal role in numerous impactful projects. He was instrumental in co-founding the President’s Circle Leadership Program (PLC), which successfully secured an impressive $30,000 in donations, as well as recruiting and empowering over 120 alumni leaders statewide. His deep commitment to advocacy, particularly in engaging with administrators and school officials, is shown through his role as the co-chair of the “Bring Your Administrator to State Convention” committee. Troendle’s unwavering dedication is further demonstrated through his ongoing volunteer work, providing invaluable coaching and mentorship to FFA members not only in his local chapter but also in neighboring chapters.

Their dedication ensures that the floriculture career development meets industry standards.

Blue Diamond Growers
Since 2017, Blue Diamond Growers has played a crucial role in amplifying the impact the organization’s Give the Gift of Blue Program. They have donated more than $175,000 in matching funds while gaining support from growers, industry leaders, alums and others, encouraging widespread commitment to the initiative. This support network has resulted in California FFA being able to give more than 5,000 FFA Blue Jackets through the program.

Domino’s Pizza LLC joined FFA as a corporate sponsor in 2017 and has continued to make a difference in the lives of our members. They played an active role at the CEO roundtable and serve on the National FFA Foundation Sponsors’ board. As well as, host annual visits with the National Officer teams. In addition, the company engages at the local, state and national level through various programs, and supports the National FFA scholarship program as well.

Over the past three years, Wrangler has transformed their relations with FFA by giving back more to the organization while leveraging their partnerships with their celebrity line-up. The Re-Evaluation of National Programs and Events with a Shared Focus in Non-Traditional and Traditional Agriculture Committee recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | Accessibility and Communications

The National FFA should improve communications within the National FFA website with an improved user interface, search engine, resources, and the addition of an AI support chat box. Additionally developing an app that includes the Forever Blue Network and opportunities available to members.

Recommendation #2 | Next Gen Conferences

The National FFA should improve the availability of the Next Gen conference across the United States so that 10-12th graders can attend any of the eight topics within their region during a three-year cycle while also making conference educational materials accessible on the National FFA website.

Recommendation #3 | State-Based Competition Grants

The National FFA should offer application-based grants to states for the development and implementation of new Career Development Events on the state level.

Further Commentary

Regarding recommendation #1.1, the committee would also like to focus on advisor resources. The committee would also like the National FFA to highlight state contests via social media. The National FFA should continue to develop invitational competitions to be held at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

Creating Opportunities for Younger Members at the National Level (5th-8th Grade) Committee Report

The Creating Opportunities for Younger Members at the National Level (5th-8th Grade) Committee recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | Utilize Focus Groups Within NAAE

The National FFA should partner with the National Association of Agriculture Educators to create and provide resources that highlight successful 5th-8th grade chapters to be adapted by teachers of younger members.

Recommendation #2 | Implement a Regional Conference for 5th-8th Grade Students

The National FFA should host regional conferences for 5th-8th grade members, with a potential partnership with state officers in hopes that the regional conference will eventually become a national-level event. Provide those state officers with a conference curriculum.

Recommendation #3 | Create a Junior Division for Current CDE/LDEs at the National Level

The National FFA should create a junior division to be added to current national-level CDEs/LDEs. A virtual avenue can be provided to a junior division (5th-8th graders) in place of in-person competitions while still presenting awards and recognition for successful online competitors at the National FFA Convention and Expo.

Further Commentary

Implement junior-level proficiency/record-keeping competition to highlight the SAE projects of 5th-8th grade members.

In recommendation 2.1 examples for educational resources include online/trainings/educational videos/content.

Add additional virtual contests like poster/essay contests that are middle school-specific competitions.

Evaluate the Requirements for the American Degree Report

The Student Voice Reassessment Committee recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | Increase the Number of Community Service Hours Required for the American Degree

The National FFA should increase the number of community service hours to 75 hours.

Further Commentary

The committee thoroughly reviewed the hourly requirements for earning the American Degree and decided that no action was necessary.

The committee also thoroughly discussed clarifying descriptions for the American Degree requirements but took no action based upon the current resources available on the FFA website.

Evaluating the Purpose and Function of Regions Within the National FFA Organization Committee Report

The Evaluating the Purpose and Function of Regions Within the National FFA Organization Committee, recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | National FFA Region Reorganization

The committee recommends that the National FFA regions are re-organized after 2028, or when fully affiliated, with re-evaluation every five years.

Recommendation #2 | National FFA Region Specialists and Events

The committee recommends reinstating the National FFA region specialist positions or similar positions to create National FFA-sponsored regional events similar to Big E or the Next Gen Conferences.

Further Commentary

In recommendation 4.1, the committee feels that it should be obligated to re-organize the regions with National FFA to better represent membership changes and provide accurate representation after the organization has been fully affiliated. With a re-evaluation every five years, changes to regions only need be made if warranted.

Student Input on the Delivery of National-Level Competitive Events Committee Report

The Student Input on the Delivery of National Level Competitive Events Committee recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | Increasing Competitor Opportunities with Stakeholders

The National FFA should utilize sponsors, alumni, and partnerships to provide more opportunities for competitive events. This could be done through scholarships, internships and networking opportunities.

Recommendation #2 | Creation of New Endorsed and Designated Events

The National FFA should approve new endorsed and designated events, focusing on current industry trends to promote underrepresented event categories.

Further Commentary

The National FFA should add more events that should be endorsed that are hosted outside of the National FFA, like the National Land and Range Judging contest and the American Farm Bureau Federation Discussion Meet contest. Further use of the National Spanish Creed invitational as an outline for the criteria to transition endorsed events into designated events.

The committee encourages National FFA to hold all interviews (Stars, Proficiency, Agriscience Fair and National Chapter) in person. The committee believes the prestige of these events warrants in-person interviews. Additionally, the committee believes the setting of the interview plays a role in the applicants’ success. To ensure it is equitable between all applicants, the committee feels in-person interviews are best.

The committee encourages National FFA to examine the possibility of holding National FFA competitive events and National FFA-designated events outside of the National FFA Convention and Expo. These events may be held at universities or industry partners and sponsor locations around the country in an official National FFA capacity throughout the year. These competitors should be recognized during the National FFA Convention and Expo if they meet the distinction required.

Student Input on the 100th Anniversary Committee Report

The Student Input on the 100th Anniversary Committee recommends the following to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Recommendation #1 | Media Outreach

The National FFA should utilize the use of media to inspire and connect members and the general public for the 100th Anniversary Celebration. (Ex. advertisements, educational resources, and social media challenges.)

Recommendation #2 | Showcasing History

The National FFA can showcase its rich history through its states, chapters, and the National FFA. Examples could include a National Convention history walk, a time capsule, and traveling museums.

Recommendation #3 | Memorabilia

The 100th celebration should include memorabilia that highlights brand collaborations such as food and kids’ toys (possibilities could include special Culver’s flavors, special edition Barbie dolls, and Legos.) This would also include special edition branded FFA apparel.

Recommendation #4 | Themes

The National FFA should encourage a celebration of this monumental moment in our history with specialized events and convention themes. Examples could include a stand-alone theme that encapsulated the 100th-year anniversary, decade-themed sessions, monthly themes, competitions and challenges.

The committee encourages the board of directors not to limit themselves to the recommendations above but to include those items the board members present heard the committee discuss. Example: alumni.
